Technology Innovator With the headquarters of Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and National Semiconductor all less than a mile away, StarNet's headquarters in Sunnyvale, California are located in the heart of the Silicon Valley. StarNet was a pioneer in using the Internet as an integral part of its marketing, sales and customer support programs. Even in StarNet's early years, co-founders Richard Montgomery, Steven Schoch and John Yin recognized the Internet as a powerful medium for allowing customers to obtain product information, evaluate software products through electronic downloading, place orders and provide on-line customer support. Today, a large percentage of StarNet's sales are generated via the on-line store and the on-line quoting system. On the product side, StarNet has a strong history of technical innovations in the x server market, including: the first to integrate a Secure Shell (SSH) connect option to enable customers to run sessions to a remote host securely over their internal networks and via the internet; the first to create a 64 bit x server to facilitate AMD's Opteron computers; and the first x server to include the ability to run multiple XDMCP sessions, Windows Terminal Support, and simultaneous sessions in single window mode and multiple window mode. StarNet's recent introduction of Recon-X provides the first commercial solution to the PC X server industry to Suspend & Resume remote X Windows sessions, and recover such sessions after a crash. These attributes are expected to provide dramatic efficiency improvements for most users. In addition, Recon-X provides high-speed performance over slow connections and even session mobility while vastly reducing network traffic. While independently creating excellent products, StarNet has also collaborated with several well recognized high tech firms to provide industry solutions. Included with these is X-Win32-LX (available from the Microsoft Web site). This free PC X server was designed to work with Microsoft's Services for UNIX, which includes Interix, a technology that allows UNIX and Linux applications to run locally on the Windows platform. StarNet has also developed a unique self-monitoring concurrent network licensing technology that does not require a dedicated license server. Network licenses can be installed on any Windows machine on a network and the licensing technology will allow up to all of the licensed number of users simultaneous access to X-Win32. This feature offers customers a tremendous cost savings as a 20-user network license will typically service a 25 - 35 user community. When additional capacity is required, the license range can be easily expanded. |
