How do I disable StarNet Update Tool notifications
X-Win32 8 includes the all-new StarNet Update Tool. The StarNet Update Tool checks our website once a day for new versions of X-Win32 and alerts you that a new version or build is available for you to download and install, if you have Administrator rights on the local machine. After installing an update, the Update Tool will not notify you that additional updates are available for a number of days (typically, for at least a week); the number of days between notifications is determined by the Update Tool service and is based on the importance of the fixes included in the new build.
When an update is available and you have rights to install it, you are presented with a dialog that allows you to start downloading the update or to defer handling of update notifications to a later date (e.g. one or two weeks later). You can perform a manual update check with the StarNet Update Tool when automatic notifications are disabled by selecting Help -> Update from X-Win32’s tray icon menu.
There are two ways to disable the UpdateTool.
First, simply delete the UpdateTool.exe located in the default installation directory.
Secondly, Edit the file UpdateTool.uo and put a big number in the remind date field such as this
<RemindDate>9999-11-24T16:31:53</RemindDate>
NOTE for System Administrators: As noted above, the StarNet Update Tool will only allow Administrators to install updates; in short, you do not have to change a configuration option to disable the Update Tool for your non-Administrator users before deploying X-Win32 8.
