Sound Support
Q: Does X-Win32 support sound?
A: X-Win32 does not support sound.
Q: Does X-Win32 support keyboard beeps?
A: X-Win32 uses different beeps depending on the “loudness” of the “bell” specified by the X application and also the “xset b” setting.
If I run “xset q” I get my X-Win32 settings including this line:
bell percent: 50 bell pitch: 400 bell duration: 100
This means that by default the X applications will sent a “bell” of 50% volume.
When X-Win32 beeps, it plays one of the system sounds depending on the percent volume. The sounds it plays are:
0 – 19% – No sound
20% – 49% – Simple Beep
50% – 59% – “Default Beep”
60% – 69% – “Asterisk”
70% – 79% – “Question”
80% – 89% – “Exclamation”
90% – 100% – “Critical Stop”
You can view the settings for these sounds in the Windows “Sounds” control panel.
If you don’t have a sound set for one of these levels, then you won’t hear anything when the X application beeps at that volume.
