Unable to connect: Invalid ssh2 packet type: 254

X-Win32 version 6.1 patch level 3 (i.e. 6.1.3) occasionally reports one of the following errors on starting a SSH session.

SSH Errors

  • Unable to connect: Invalid ssh2 packet type: 254
  • Unable to connect: Invalid ssh2 packet type: 0

It has been reported that this happens with particular remote operating systems, such as Fedora Core 4 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, but it likely happens with other remote operating systems as well.

StarNetSSH in X-Win32 6.1.3 had a problem that caused this error to occur. This problem was fixed in X-Win32 7.0 and later. In addition, X-Win32 8 features an all new SSH connection module that improves stability and speed significantly.
