SUNNYVALE, CA —March 26, 2008: StarNet Communications of Sunnyvale, California, a leading developer of Windows-to-Linux/UNIX connectivity solutions, announces X-Win32 9.1 adding the ability to run individual remote Linux and Unix applications with the benefits of session persistency.
Using the new LIVE functionality, users can display not just a full remote Unix or Linux desktop, but they can also choose to display individual applications, such as IC design software, that run on powerful Linux and Unix hosts. For the first time, they can suspend and resume these sessions or reconnect to them after experiencing a Windows, power or network failure. X-Win32’s LIVE server allows these sessions to continue to process on the remote host while the PC is disconnected from the network. Users simply re-launch the session on their Windows PC to get reconnected to the application running on the host.
With the so-called Multiple Window Mode support, X-Win32 LIVE further distances itself from bandwidth-hogging solutions like VNC that only allow full remote Unix and Linux desktops to be displayed. When connecting over slow Internet connection, the bandwidth consumed by desktop graphics substantially impacts end-user productivity. Exporting only the date from a single application, on the other hand, significantly boosts performance of the application when exported to the PC over slow network connections.
“Many PC X server users are accustomed to running single applications instead of a full X desktop. With version 9.1 we can offer mobile users the same experience but with the added benefits of session persistency. Now they can work productively from anywhere outside the LAN and never have to worry about losing their sessions when their network connection or power goes down,” said Steven Schoch, StarNet co-founder and Chief Executive Officer.
X-Win32 LIVE is the first fully-featured PC X server capable of protecting users connected to a remote Linux/Unix host against Windows crashes and network or power failures. X-Win32 LIVE also offers the ability to move X sessions from one PC to another and to work at LAN-like speed when connecting over slow Internet connections.
X-Win32 lists at US$270.00 in single license quantity, including year-one maintenance. Volume discounts are available for commercial, government and educational users. X-Win32 LIVE can be downloaded from www.starnet.com.
