News Release

X-Win32 2010 Takes Remote X Display to the Next Level

Sunnyvale – December 8, 2009: StarNet Communications of Sunnyvale, California, a leading developer of Windows/Linux/UNIX connectivity solutions, today announced X-Win32 2010, a major upgrade of its flagship X-Win32 PC X server. The new Windows 7-compatible 2010 release adds support for sound over Internet connections, file sharing and local PC printers.  2010 also includes a new data encryption module that offers up to 4 times faster performance of tunneled connections.

Until now, sound support was only possible with non-persistent sessions on a local area network. 2010 expands audio support to StarNet’s LIVE technology, which offers fault-tolerant (persistent) and fast display of remote X desktops and individual applications over internet connections. “Operators in control rooms will now be able to hear alarms go off in real time on computers half a world away. Other users will now know when a new email has arrived,” commented StarNet co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Steven Schoch.

Version 2010 also features a code upgrade to the latest 7.1 release of the X11 X Window system that provides new video display and other graphics extensions. The new SSH model allows users to securely connect to Linux and UNIX hosts behind a firewall and display X desktops and applications at near LAN speed.

Customers who install StarNet’s latest LIVE Server on their Linux and Unix hosts also benefit from new compatibility with StarNet’s Macintosh and Linux clients. “Users can now work on Linux and Macintosh workstations in the office and reconnect to their remote X sessions from a Windows machine at home,” Schoch said. “Version 2010, along with MacLIVE and LinuxLIVE offer the first line of remote X display solutions that offers session persistency and seamless compatibility across all major end-user OS platforms.”

LIVE technology is StarNet’s commercial alternative to VNC, allowing Windows and Linux users to reconnect to applications running on remote Unix and Linux hosts after an otherwise fatal network, power or system failure. Users can also share their remote applications with other Windows users and suspend their sessions on their office PC and resume them at home.
