StarNet Enterprise

StarNet Enterprise is the first cloud based X Windows solution. Enterprise is designed for customers with special performance, security, IT management, load balancing and other requirements that are not available in other StarNet solutions or competing products.

Just like the LIVE connections option in StarNet's flagship X-Win32, Enterprise offers fast, secure and persistent connections to display remote Unix and Linux desktops and applications. Beyond that, Enterprise offers an extensive set of features and capabilities designed for IT infrastructures with special security and administrative requirements.

Cloud-Based Access to X11 Sessions
Similar to GoToMyPC, Logmein and PC Anywhere, Enterprise allows users to access their remote Unix and Linux desktops and applications via a web browser. From there, they can launch new applications and suspend or resume existing ones. They can also check the status of sessions, such as an IC simulation, from devices like smart phones using Enterprise's unique dynamic "Session Status Icons".

LAN/WAN Only Access
For security reasons, internet access is on by default. Enterprise can be set up on a LAN in a way that authorized users can only access their sessions from within the LAN. It can also be set up on a network that does not have any connection to the Internet, providing the workstations have browsers installed.

Designed for IT Managers
StarNet Enterprise offers a broad range of advantages to IT managers:

  • Tight management of users. Each user or group of users can be granted access to a unique set of applications on various Unix and Linux application hosts.
  • Access to applications can be easily terminated. For example, when a user has completed a project.
  • All licensing is centrally managed by a license server. End users only need their login and password to the Enterprise server to access their sessions.
  • Load Balancing. Enterprise offers load balancing between the application hosts as well as the Enterprise Agent Controllers (see component description below).
  • Low network impact. The Enterprise X11 protocol is razor thin, so the amount of traffic between the client and server will not impact network performance, even when a significant number of users run Enterprise sessions.

Designed for Security
Enterprise offers the best protection against hacker attacks. The modular design of the Enterprise system exposes only the system's web host to the Internet. All other components (such as the vital session and user databases, and agent controller and application hosts) are shielded from Internet exposure. Enterprise's connections between the client and server are always protected by encrypted SSH tunneling.

Global Availability
Enterprise offers easy access from any device with a web browser. In addition, Enterprise has the ability to detect if the user's connecting workstation has the Enterprise X server installed. If not, the Enterprise X client is downloaded and installed on the fly.

The Enterpirse System
Enterprise has a modular design with four key components that can be installed on either a single machine (stand-alone or on an application host) or distributed across the IT infrastructure:

  • Web Host: All access to the Enterprise System is provded by the web host. Existing corporate web servers can be used for the Enterprise Web Host.
  • Database: User and session data is maintained in a database that can be put on an existing database server.
  • Agent Controller: All data traffic between the X Application and the end user's workstation is processed by the Agent Controller. The agent can be either stand-alone or be installed on the application host. The latter reduceds overall network traffic.
  • License Server: The license server can be set up on any Windows or Linux system or terminal server, including on the machine where the Agent controller is located.

How Enterprise Works: The User Experience
Enterprise is based on a patent-pending design. Here's how it works:

Like PC Anywhere, you simply point your web browser at the Enterprise URL. After logging in, you will see the Enterprise User Interface with a list of sessions you have in "Connected" or "Disconnected" states. Our unique, dynamic session icons show the current state the session is in, so you can see what is going on with your session simply by looking at the icon. You can even check in on the status of a running session from any mobile device with a browser.

From the Enterprise Interface, you can reconnect to existing sessions, start new sessions, or terminate those you no longer need. Enterprise sessions are persistent, meaning you will not lose them should you get disconnected from the Enterprise system. You can also reconnect to your sessions from different computers, even from an iPad. Enterprise connections work fast, not just on the LAN but also when connecting over WiFi, 3G, or 4G connections.

When you start or resume (reconnect) a session and you happen to be on a PC that doesn't have the Enterprise X server client installed, Enterprise will automatically download and install the client on the fly. No license requred!

Remote X has never been simpler, faster or more secure.
