Features & Specifications

X-Win32 is the ONLY PC X server that lets you
connect to multiple UNIX/Linux desktops at the same time and also run some
X Windows applications in separate Xterm windows. That is just one of the
innovative features in X-Win32 that greatly boosts your productivity.
Please review many of the other great features you'll find in X-Win32 in
the list below.
X-Win32 Version 7.1
New Features in Version 7.1
- Updated OpenGL Support: We have added hardware acceleration support for 3-D OpenGL applications. An overhaul of the OpenGL code added 55 new OpenGL extensions. Test applications show frame rate improvements of 5X to 20X. High-level 3-D modeling applications like I-DEAS and Catia that failed before, now work well with X-Win32, including hardware accelerated graphics.
- Updated Installer: We have changed from an InstallScript-based installer to an MSI-based installer, a feature that customers have been requesting for years. We still provide a 'setup.exe' installer for end-users and small companies, but enterprise customers will also have access to our MSI files, with which they can easily perform push deployments to thousands of computers.
- Graphics: We have added support for depth 24 XYPixmaps, which were required for many advanced graphics design programs such as GNUplot and Mentor Graphics IC Design tools.
- Crash Handler: A new built-in Crash Handler allows customers to send in a crash report when a crash occurs. Already one of the most stable PC X servers, we used the crash reports to fix virtually all known X-Win32 crash problems, thus vastly improving overall stability of the X server.
- Automatic Build System: We adopted a new auto-build system. Every improvement (bug fix or new feature) we make in our code immediately results in a ready-to-ship installer. Once a change has been tested, we can deliver the updated installer to customers. This used to be a manual process that took two to three days. As a result, new builds were only done after a large number of changes had been made (i.e. every three to five weeks).
X-Win32 Version 7.0
New Features in Version 7.0
- Auto Desktop: New users will be able to quickly bring up a remote UNIX or Linux desktop. X-Win32 automatically starts an XDMCP session. The user simply selects the host from a list and entered his login/password at the prompt.
- Updated X11 Code: Version 7 is based on the latest X11 6.8.2 release from the X.Org Foundation.
- New Extension: Version 7 adds 13 new X11 extensions. The X-Input Extension, for example, now allows X-Win32 to work with Linux desktop facilities such as Konqueror.
- Smart Copy & Paste: Version 7 offers a completely new Copy & Paste code. No longer does the user have to figure whether material is copied to the primary or secondary clipboard. X-Win32 does this for you. So all you have to do is highlight text and paste it into a Windows application. The new code also accepts Unicode, meaning Chinese, Japanese and other non-Roman text can be copied easily.

1) Migrate
Exceed Sessions to X-Win32
X-Win32 5.4.4
features an innovative "Session Migration Manager" that automatically
converts sessions created by Exceed into X-Win32 sessions. The
Session Migration Manager was developed in response to customers who are
migrating from Exceed to X-Win32. Many have dozens of Exceed
sessions: The Session Migration Manager eliminates the need to re-create
Exceed sessions under X-Win32. Users simply go to "X-Config
-Sessions" and click the "Migrate Sessions" button. A list of
existing Exceed sessions is displayed and the users the select which
sessions they wish to migrate. Only the sessions' password need to
be re-entered as this data is not migrated for security reasons.
2) XStart
Feature
Version 5.4.4 also
features a new option for users connecting to an IBM-server. This feature
prevents AIX to alter the lay-out of the Windows keyboard which occurs
when users run the "xstart" command. The feature can be found on the
X-Config - Input" tab.

invoke a session. This is useful in cases where there are multiple Unix/Linux
servers and you are using a server load-balancing utility.
See Instructions.
4) Silent Installation
You can now perform remote (silent) installation of X-Win32 on Windows machines
across your network. See Instructions.
5) X-Admin32
X-Admin32 is a unique new Session Distribution tool that allows users to create
sessions, save the sessions to a file and email the file to other users
(or save it to a shared network folder) who can then instantly use the sessions.
X-Admin32 allows Windows users even those who are unfamiliar with UNIX
or Linux and do not know how to set up sessions to work productively with
Linux and UNIX applications. It will also allow engineers and manager
to easily distribute sessions to a large group of co-workers or staff.
And you can use the X-Admin32 tool to gain access to your sessions from
any computer in your organization by accessing the session file on a shared
network folder. See Instructions.
6) Error Logging
An error logging capability has been added to X-Win32, which allows the user to visually examine
the request, reply, and error messages generated by X-Win32. This information can also be forwarded
to an internal HelpDesk or to StarNet's customer support staff. Such information can result in
faster turn- around time for problem resolution.
To turn on error logging, select "Show Message" from the X-Win32 system menu. When the message
window appears, selecting the "File/Debugging/Logging" option will activate/deactivate the error
logging function. When activated, the user will be allowed to select the name and location of
the output file.
After completing the Error Logging procedure, it is advisable to turn the feature off as it will
cause regular applications to run slower. To turn off logging, repeat the "File/Debugging/Logging"
selection from the message window, and the logging function will by turned off. Rebooting X-Win32
has the same effect.
