Support: X-Win32 LIVE
Starting with version 9.0 of X-Win32, the new session type LIVE has been added. (X-Win32 continues to support rsh, rexec, SSH, XDMCP, and telnet sessions.) A LIVE session offers the ability to disconnect from the host on which it is running, like a VNC session, except it uses the more efficient NX protocol. As a result, LIVE Sessions perform much faster than VNC-- especially over Internet connections. In addition, because LIVE Sessions run over an SSH encrypted tunnel, they offer unmatched security.
a LIVE Session offers the following:
- Suspend & Resume Capability
- Reconnect to a session after a Windows, Power or Network failure.
- Suspend a session on one PC and resume it on another, even at home over the Internet.
- Run remote X desktops over the Internet with LAN-like performance.
- After suspending a session, the remote application continues to perform on the server, so you can start a job, suspend it and resume it at a later point to get the results.
Server Component
Because a LIVE Session uses a new protocol that will not be found on existing Linux servers, the LIVE server component needs to be installed on the Linux/Unix server to which you are connecting. For LIVE server installation instructions and system requirements, please see the LIVE Server Page.
LIVE Client
The LIVE client comes as part of X-Win32, version 9.0 or later. This can be downloaded here.
Depending on the date at which you installed your X-Win32 license, you may need to update your license key to use the LIVE features. If a LIVE update is needed, you will be prompted when you first launch a LIVE Session.
To set up a LIVE Session in your copy of X-Win32, please see the LIVE Session Instructions. |
