Connection methods missing: Xdmcp is the only method available
Connection methods in X-Win32 7.1 are handled by connection modules that are dynamically loaded by X-Config and X-Win32. If you are trying to create a new session in X-Config and you do not see at least rexec, rsh, and Xdmcp as listed connection types, then you may be missing the files that handles those connection modules or Windows may be failing to load them for some reason.
The StarNetSSH and ssh (integration with F-Secure’s SSH product, if installed) connection modules are optional and thus may be missing from the list because they are simply not installed.
If StarNetSSH is missing, then you may have installed the version of X-Win32 without StarNetSSH support that is intended for export only to certain countries covered by US export restrictions for encryption code. If you do not live in a restricted country, then you simply need to download and install the version of X-Win32 with StarNetSSH support (in X-Win32 7.1 you will have to uninstall the non-StarNetSSH version before installing the StarNetSSH version).
List of connection modules and associated files
- Rexec – rexec.dll
- Rsh – rsh.dll
- Ssh (F-Secure) – ssh.dll, sshxwin32.dll, sshxwin32_51.dll, and sshxwin32_52.dll
- StarNetSSH – StarNetSSH.dll
- Xdmcp – Integrated into X-Win32
