Host is down or Host is unreachable
When starting an X-Win32 rexec or rsh session to connect to your Solaris, IBM AIX, HP-UX, or Linux machine, you may receive one of the errors below.
rexec and rsh local errors
- Host is down
- Host is unreachable
Either of these errors indicate that X-Win32 cannot contact the remote machine. It is possible that the connection is being blocked by a firewall, but more likely the machine is simply powered off or is not currently accepting rexec or rsh connections. Check that the machine is on and that inetd is configured to allow rexec or rsh connections (depending on the type of your session).
