Limiting the commands users can launch

FastX can restrict users’ ability to launch commands so that they can only launch specific sessions.  This ability is achieved by enabling Command Restrictions in the Commands Section of the System Configuration menu.

Enabling Restrictions

  1. Log in as an administrator
  2. Click on the System Configuration Icon
  3. Click Bookmarks
  4. Create Bookmarks  of the commands you want your users to launch.
  5. Save
  6. Click Commands
  7. Enable Command Restrictions
  8. Save

The user will only be able to launch commands that are defined in one of the Bookmarks.  This will also hide the command field in the browser when starting a session

Advanced Usage

A user can always launch any command defined as a Bookmark.  Admins can also add custom commands to the Command Restrictions, so that advanced users have the flexibility to launch other sessions

  1. Go to the Commands Sections
  2. Enable Command Restrictions
  3. Click New Command
  4. Enter in a Regular Expression of the command you want to allow
  5. Add the profile that will be allowed with this command.
  6. Repeat Steps 3 – 5 for the other commands

Allowed Commands must pass the regular expression test and be launched with the correct profile in order for them to start.  Otherwise the command will fail with an error
