Santa Clara, CA – April 14, 2026 – StarNet Communications, a leading developer of remote Linux and Unix access solutions announced the release of FastX 5, the first remote Linux access solutions to support the Wayland protocol for displaying Linux applications. FastX 5 also features a modern User Interface and advanced job-scheduling and compute cluster support.
Wayland is a modern, streamlined and security-focused protocol for Linux graphics. It was designed to replace the decades-old X11 system and was built for modern graphics processors. Wayland is currently implemented in several popular Linux distributions, including Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu.
FastX 5 is the first remote Linux access tool to support both Wayland and X11 applications in a single solution. “The integration of Wayland into FastX 5 is so transparent, users would not even know whether an application they are running is X11 or Wayland-based. They are displayed side-by-side on the user’s workstation” commented Steven Schoch, co-founder and CEO of StarNet.
FastX 5 has redesigned its User Interface. Administrators can now upload images to the new “Media” facility and create new Theme(s) as backgrounds. See example below. “The new look and feel creates a more immersive experience,” Schock explained
FastX 5 also includes new facilities to make integration into existing environments even more seamless. Advanced clustering services have been moved into their own package, simplifying the ability of system administrators to configure clustering and job scheduling within their compute infrastructures..
Pricing & Availability
FastX 5 can be downloaded with a 30-day free evaluation license from the StarNet web site. FastX 5 has a list price of $390 for a single commercial license. Volume, government and educational discounts are available.
