FastX 5 Browser Client Guide

Introduction

FastX browser client connects to the FastX server through a web browser.  Use the URL of the host with port 3300. (https://example.com:3300/)

System Requirements

Ports

  • 3300 (https) – Default

Logging In

FastX uses the user’s Linux account to login through the browser using ssh.

A user’s dashboard will display.

Launching Application

Available Applications – Are applications that have been configured to be launched.

Running Applications – Are applications that are currently being ran by the user.  These applications can be suspended on the host or currently connected by the user.  A green indicator labeled “Connected” will show if the user is connected to the application.

To launch an applications, double click on the desired application.  This includes double clicking on the running application to reconnect.

After Launching Application

A chooser will be prompted when launching an application.

  • Browser Client – This will launch the application using your current browser.
    • Check the box “Open in New Tab” will launch the application in a new browser tab
  • Desktop Client (Installation required) – Will launch the application using the FastX desktop client.
    • Users can download the FastX desktop client from the link on the bottom.

Check the box “Remember my selection” will always launch an application with this choice.

Users can set the launch settings in the user’s Preference

Go to the user Preferences

Select the Connection Type drop down.

  • System Default – Use the setting set by the Admin
  • User Select – Prompts the chooser when launching an application
  • Browser in the Same Tab – Launches application in the same tab
  • Browser in New Tab – Launches application in new tab
  • Desktop Client – Launches application using the FastX Desktop Client (installation required)

Connected Application Options

After connecting to an application, application options will appear on the middle right of the connected application.

Click and hold this icon to move the application options.

Click this icon to hide the application options.

Click this icon to go back to the dashboard.

Click icon to share session.

Click icon to open application settings.

Users can adjust performance settings, scaling, and keyboard.

Dashboard View Modes

Click on the down arrow near the home icon to change the dashboard display.

Grid (Default)

Grid mode is the default view for the dashboard.  The running applications will display in a screen shot grid with available application below.

List

List mode will display running applications in a list with available application below.

Grid Classic

Grid Classic mode displays the dashboard in FastX 4 grid dashboard.

Custom application is created and launched by the user.  The user inputs the command, window mode, and name of the application.
